Synergy (ISSN 1448-5176) is published twice annually (May and October) by the School Library Association of Victoria (SLAV).

Its aim is to bring to members a wide-ranging view of the world of school librarianship with particular emphasis on current research, directions and ideas in educational practice.

Synergy is recognised as a partially refereed journal. That is, only those articles acknowledged in the journal as such have been part of the referee process. Synergy appears on the Register of Refereed Journals of the Research Programs and Policies Unit of the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training.

By providing both refereed articles and professional material of a more practical nature the journal hopes to bring quality research and discussion to the field whilst also publishing practical, timely and detailed ideas and opinions.

Synergy also aims to provide in-depth reviews of recent publications of relevance to the profession.

The most recent edition of the journal is accessible to SLAV members only. In a contribution towards a collegial view of the profession the association chose in 2014 to make all past editions open access. As each new edition is published the previous edition will be moved to open access.

The opinions expressed in this publication are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of SLAV or the Editorial Board. While reasonable checks have been made to ensure the accuracy of statements and advice, no responsibility for any loss occasioned to any person acting on or refraining from action as a result of material in this publication is accepted by the authors, SLAV or the Synergy Editorial Board. The Synergy Editorial Board reserves the right to edit articles at its own discretion unless requested otherwise.


Members are invited to consider contributing to Synergy by either writing for it themselves or suggesting relevant commentators for inclusion. Feedback of all kinds is welcome, as are thoughts about the journal’s content or direction.
All contributors, by providing their article for publication, acknowledge that the most recent edition of Synergy is accessible to SLAV members only. All other editions are on open access on the Synergy website. Once each new edition is published the previous edition will be moved to open access.

Contributors wishing to have their article proceed through the referee process must supply their article to the editor at least three months before the deadline for the issue in which it is to appear. All refereed articles will be blind refereed by at least two referees. Referees are appointed from amongst the Editorial Board of Synergy and from amongst others with relevant experience within the profession of teacher-librarianship. Articles that have been refereed will be duly acknowledged in Synergy when published.
