Literacy Matters! Literacy, Advocacy and the Teacher-Librarian Print E-mail

Abstract
As reports of low literacy levels from varied sources continue to appear regularly pressure for change is great. Falling literacy levels are being reported in spite of huge spending on new library facilities in schools (BER scheme) and the increasing use of technology as a replacement for other media formats. What we haven’t seen yet is a commitment by governments and systemic education systems to well-resourced and professionally staffed libraries in schools.
